La Charta di Cambio
The Charta di Cambio is the official passport that accompanies the traveler and certifies that they are undertaking the Way of the Templars (Cammino dei Templari).
It is very important to carry it with you, as it grants access to pilgrim-friendly accommodations—those lodgings and refreshment points that offer discounted prices to travelers.
At each stage, the corresponding stamps must be placed in the Charta di Cambio to mark the completed route. At the end of the journey, these stamps will entitle the bearer to receive the final parchment certificate, which confirms the completion of the experience.
Remember to have your Charta di Cambio stamped every day. It will also become a precious keepsake, helping you recall the memories of the journey.
A bit of history…
The term Charta di Cambio has its roots in the Middle Ages, and it was the Knights Templar themselves who developed one of the first banking systems in Europe.
The traveler, or pilgrim, could deposit their money at a Templar commandery before departure and receive in return a Charta or Letter of Exchange—a written document certifying the deposited amount.
Once at their destination, the traveler could redeem that amount at another Templar commandery, thus avoiding the risks of carrying money over long distances.
In this spirit of protection, trust, and brotherhood, today’s Charta di Cambio recalls that ancient tradition of supporting the traveler.
Where and how to get it
To receive your Charta di Cambio, please fill out the form below, which also helps us get to know you a little better.
The easiest and most convenient way to obtain it is by requesting it at the beginning of the first stage, either at the Gubbio Tourist Office (IAT) or at the Park Hostel in Costacciaro at the end of the first stage (we recommend sending a WhatsApp message in advance to +39 353 424 9095).
Contribution
A contribution of €5 is requested for each Charta di Cambio. This contribution is used exclusively for the management, cleaning, and maintenance of the Way of the Templars.
Scriptum Templare
The Scriptum Templare is our certificate—a diploma that attests to the completion of the ancient route followed by the Templars of Monte Cucco.
To receive it, simply present your completed Charta di Cambio at one of the offices where it is issued (IAT or hostels in Costacciaro and Pascelupo). Alternatively, send us a WhatsApp message at +39 353 424 9095 or an email to camminodeitemplari@tramontanaguide.com with a photo of the completed Charta di Cambio.
The Scriptum Templare is FREE. A €3 contribution is only requested in case you require it to be shipped.
IMPORTANT NOTES
- To receive the Charta di Cambio for two or more people (including groups), it is enough to submit a single form and list the names of the other participants in the “Travelers walking with me” field.
- In case of a shipping request, the Charta di Cambio will be sent by post. A single shipping contribution of €3 applies per address, regardless of the number of Chartae requested.
